Pula
About 20 minutes away. The Roman amphitheatre stands in the middle of town and is used for concerts and film nights in summer. Add the market hall, the forum, the fortress and a harbour that is pleasant in the evening.

Istria and surroundings
Škicini lies centrally in the south of the peninsula: coast, towns and hinterland are all a short drive away. A few suggestions from the neighbourhood.
Rovinj
Roughly 30 minutes north. Narrow lanes climb to the church of St Euphemia, with fishing boats and waterside terraces below. The Zlatni rt forest park is good for a walk before dinner.
Vodnjan
The nearest town, six kilometres away. Known for award-winning olive oil, several mills offering tastings, street art on the old town facades and a quiet weekly market.
Fažana and Brijuni
Fažana is a small fishing town on the coast and the departure harbour for boats to the Brijuni national park. The islands can be explored on a guided tour, by the little sightseeing train or by bicycle; it is best to check tickets and departure times with the national park in advance. In the town itself, the waterfront promenade and fish restaurants make for a quiet evening.
Beaches and coves
Peroj and Barbariga are about 15 minutes away – pebble and rock coves with pines and easy access to the water. Further south lies the Kamenjak peninsula, a protected stretch of coast with clear water and almost no development.
Food and drink
Istria runs on olive oil, truffles, game, fresh fish and wine from Malvazija and Teran grapes. The villages around Škicini have konobas with short menus, and nearby farms sell oil and wine directly.
Shopping and supplies
Vodnjan and Pula offer places to buy groceries and everyday essentials, with a wider choice in Pula. Opening hours can vary seasonally and should be checked in advance. Local products such as olive oil and wine are available in the region.
With children
The Istralandia water park near Novigrad, Dinopark Funtana, boat trips from Fažana to the Brijuni islands and the shallow coves at Peroj – all within an hour's drive.
Holidays with a dog
Up to two dogs are welcome free of charge in both houses. Peroj has designated dog beaches; other coastal sections may have their own rules depending on the season. Please follow local signs and seasonal requirements, bring water and avoid the midday heat.
Day trips
Motovun and Grožnjan inland, the Brijuni national park islands, the Lim fjord, Poreč with its Euphrasian basilica and – with a little more time – the Kvarner bay or Trieste.
